Soul Journal- Photo copy

Well... I tried finishing up some unfinished projects. I completed my Misfits page. It's not much different from my last post, but to tell you the truth, I wasn't really "into" this prompt. I think it was a little "cartoon-y" for a Mom of an almost 11 year boy who has to fight the video game and cartoon battle every day. It was neat and I don't "regret" doing it, it just wasn't something I could be very creative with.

Next I worked on the photo-copy prompt. Pink, purple and burgandys are my favorite colors. So since this prompt was about my favorite pieces of soul journaling so far, I thought I would go with my favorite color family as well. I don't know if you can tell in the picture or not, but the "Fun Pass" on the lower left corner is actually embossed bright pink as well. I think I like how these pages turned out but at the same time, think they look too......... simple?

Lastly..... My frustration........

When I thought Sarah's prompts were over and before I knew a Soul Journal Yahoo group had started, I played with sketching something. Keep in mind...lol..... I've never sketched people before!! That in mind..... I was actually really pleased with my little sketch~! At that point, I've looked at it for probably a week thinking to myself.... "Maybe I will finish this page off and consider it a "practice" and maybe attempt doing a canvas of it." I've played with pictures in my head for a week now, I've just completed Misfits and Photocopy pages.....now I'm going to tackle me sketch....

I should have went to bed!

I began going over the pencil sketch with black marker, figuring I wanted to prep the page with gesso, so I could either paint color on the sketch or even collage the clothing, but gesso would be a good start and the black marker would show through enough to go over it with the paint. Right?

Nope......

First I realize paint from the previous page had bled through. this has never happened to me before! It's a moleskine journal and the previous page even had gesso on it! {thought process}.... "well maybe the gesso and paint/collage" will cover it.

So I begin to gesso. I didn't pay enough attention to which black marker I used (a non-permanent - acid-free scrapbooking marker) and when my brush hit it..... IT
SMEARED!

Waahhhh!!!!

The page was already half gesso'd, so I finished off gessoing it.....leaving a border all around my non-permanent sketch. :(

What in the world do I do next? I really want to salvage this little drawing of my family!

It's so frustrating to have created something you love ... only for it to be on the verge of being ruined! I hate that!

I suggest the first thing that you should do is photocopy or scan your drawing, so you won't lose what you already have. Make some copies!

Then, you can seal the pages using a product by Golden Acrylic Paints called GAC100. You can find it at a Michael's store (most of them), or at DickBlick.com or JerrysArtarama.com. It is a sealer. It will prevent what's on one page from bleeding into the next.

I can't promise, though, that the marker won't bleed when you cover it, though. It may bleed a little. That's why I suggest copying it!

After you use GAC100 as a sealer, then you could gesso over the whole page (even your drawing).

Then use one or more of your copies and add it to your page like we did with the Soul Armor. Or, trace it back onto the page by putting copy paper between a copy and your page ... and then go back over the lines with something more permanent or with paint.

This is just one gal's suggestion for rescuing your masterpiece! :-)

Oh, and by the way, thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving me a nice comment!

Sandy I love your misfit page..So sorry about your sketch page..But do scan or photocopy it before you try anything else.
I did have a bit of a giggle though..I thought I was the only one who had these disasters..Gesso, markers and I are sworn enemies..I love the way your journal is going..And yep the writing on my permission slip is embossed..
Have a great night and I hope it all works out..

Not really sure what I would do....maybe use clear packing tape over them like making a window and then add a background in darker colors...we all found out that tape is our friend..right? lol
Thanks for the encourageing words left on my blog....and I like your misfits!

Hi Sandy - I have had similar problems with marker pens.I've just ordered some Faber-Castel Pitt Artists Pens (recommended by Kathryn Antyr)I'll let you know what they're like. Your drawing is lovely - Anne's advice sounds good, hope you manage to save it.
Love Linda xx

Hi Sandy! Just checking in to see how it's going. I also just wanted to say that as frustrating as mistakes can be ... often I find that they turn out to be "happy art accidents". Some of the stuff that I like best is from near-disasters! :-)

Hi Sandy, Thanks for the compliment on my blog. I appreciate it. You can check out my other blog. I think it's in my list under "My Original Art" or something like that. It's called "Art, Color, Water". I hadn't painted in quite awhile. I'd been doing all sorts of other creative things. I thought after our Nova Scotia trip that I would have lots of photos to paint from and that painting is from one of them. I'm glad you liked it. Libby

Oops! This isn't all about me.

I'm really enjoying reading about your soul journaling.

I should try that. Maybe after this blasted "Harry Potter" scarf is finished. I started it in July of 2007. A-L-M-O-S-T D-O-N-E...
