First Mixed Media Canvas

As I've explained, I've been working on my first mixed media piece other than art journals. I choose a canvas, gesso'd it, attached some mixed papers, then washed it with a coffee bean and then flesh acrylics. After that, I cut a tree out of of some scrapbook paper, and dabbed on some green leaves.

While that was drying, I sketched a girl and some pumpkins on some watercolor paper, finished them with water color paints, gel pens and markers.

Once my paper doll and pumpkins were cut out, I attached them to the canvas and sealed the entire piece with Modge Podge.

Once that dried, I added some "confetti leaves", the paper leaf, some glitter and finally the fibers on the edge and this is what I'm left with......
I'm fairly happy with how my first attempt turned out, but I still think it's missing something. I'm not sure what. A "title"? A poem? Some sort of words...... I dunno.... But overall, yes, I'm happy with it. Let me know what you think.... and be honest!! I have thick skin! lol

Hi Sandy! First I want to thank you for your kind words and thoughts and prayers. They are appreciated! :-)

Next I'd like to say that I really like your mixed media piece! I love how the tree turned out. And I like all the textures and layers you have.

I just signed up for Suzi Blu's Les Petite Dolls class the other day, so I can learn her style of making faces and layers. You can read about the class at: http://suziblu.ning.com/. It's $55. The class started a while ago, but you can download the .PDFs and videos to your own computer and work at your own pace. I'm having a lot of fun! Maybe I'll see you there!!! :-)

What a wonderful first attempt! I really like how you layered the background.

If I had to make a suggestion (since you asked what we think) I would say give your character a little more color. She blends in a bit with the background.

You are off to a great start!

Hi Sandy,
Layers are so much fun. I like to add some bees wax as a finishing touch. You could put more leaves on top of the wax and add more wax on top of the leaves for more dimention. It's a great first attempt. Keep at it.

I love it! I really notice the yellow on the left side. Perhaps your girl's dress could have some yellow gel pen doodles to call more attemtion to her.

great start to mixed media. I think you are right about needing text. I have discovered that is needed sometime in my pieces. I hope you keep playing mixed media ART.
